The Hammocks
No keys.
Just a hammock.
Every guest sleeps in a handwoven cotton hammock strung under a private palm-thatch palapa, open to the river on every side. No rooms, no doors, no front desk.
Palapa No. 4, dry season. Hung that morning by Don Estuardo.
The hammock is the whole thing. A handwoven cotton sling tied tight between two posts under a thatch roof you can see the sky through. We string it high enough to keep you dry, low enough to climb into barefoot, and we re-hang it every morning so the rope stays kind.
By the second night most guests have stopped missing a mattress. By the fourth they have stopped thinking about it. The mosquito net falls down from the ridge before dark and a thin cotton pillow waits at the headboard end.
You will hear the river. You will hear the howler monkeys before dawn. You will hear the generator quit at ten. None of this is a bug.
